Guidelines on Security and Privacy for Personal Computers:

  • Please backup more than one copy of important personal documents and files periodically and diligently
  • Keep all software (i.e., Windows、Office、Flash、Adobe etc.) updated with security patches at all times
  • Set complex passwords that are hard to guess, and change them regularly
  • Install software from authentic sources and do not install or download any apps from unknown sources
  • Install anti-virus software and update the virus signature promptly, and execute the virus scan periodically
  • Keep the firewall system on and scan at all times
  • Before clicking on links or attachments sent via instant messages or emails, be sure to double-check with the senders to verify their authenticity
  • Before entering or signing on to any web sites, please make sure the web address is correct, to avoid phishing scams
  • Do not click any ads, pages, or web sites that look suspicious or questionable
  • After you download any files or documents, be sure to scan for malware first
  • The proper way of using USB is to run security scans first, then open it from File Explorer and close the AUTORUN function etc.
  • Scan your computer system to see if has been infected by viruses, backdoor programs, or Trojans
  • Is the computer system running normally?
  • System seems to run unusually slow
  • Why is CPU usage ratio so high (over 95%)?
  • Messages of insufficient memory storage appear very often
  • Unfamiliar screens pop out while PC is running or networking
  • Unable to execute certain icons or functions
  • Are there any suspicious files appearing in the computer system?
  • Cannot show the hidden file
  • System’s Task Manager is executing unknown applications or apps
  • Your computer automatically sends out ad letters or messages
  • Clicking the Start button will also execute unknown software
  • Unknown service is activated or system service is disabled.
  • Firewall was overridden to open an unknown port or firewall fails to scan
  • Anti-malware software is constantly sending alert messages about catching/stopping viruses
  • Malware protection system shuts down automatically or is unable to activate
  • Unable to update virus signature
  • Is Internet connection working properly?
  • Unable to access the Internet (System is not connected)
  • Internet connection is normal but cannot browse websites
  • Networking traffic is too slow
  • Whether there is a lot of upload and download traffic on the unused network.
  • Is there any unusual web connection?
  • Unable to connect to malware protection websites or Windows Update website
  • Trying to link to a web page but was hijacked to an incorrect website
  • The web page is redirected to an incorrect site
